In 1840, Matatlán, Oaxaca, was a hub for improving artisanal mezcal processes, and the Cortés family was a major player in this movement. The family has a 179-year history of producing mezcal with care and quality. Casa Cortés is an example of the traditional mezcal-making process from planting to distillation. El Jolgorio Coyote Ancestral Edition 3 Mezcal is a spirit like no other, as it turns a new page in the range of El Jolgorio mezcals. One particular lady is attributed with the creation of this mezcal—Doña Justina Ruiz Perez, who lives in Sola de Vega, Oaxaca. She made her maiden batch of El Jolgorio Coyote Ancestral Edition 3 Mezcal using 14 year old Maguey Coyote and distilled it in clay pots.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of roasted agave and clay hit your nose on the first whiff. The palate features flavors of toasted agave, grape, and kitchen spice. It finishes off with a pleasant burn that slowly fades away.
