Tequila Fortaleza has a history as long as the line at the bar on a Friday night. It all started with Don Cenobio back in 1873, and his grandson Don Javier helped make tequila the national drink of Mexico. Jump forward to modern times, and it was Don Javier’s grandson, Guillermo, who revived the La Fortaleza distillery with traditional methods, proving that sometimes the old ways are the best ways. Transforming time-tested practices into modern expressions and coming to us at 43,5% ABV is the Fortaleza Winter Blend 2022 Reposado Tequila—a perfectly distilled tequila aged in several different barrels, including French Oak, American White Oak, Sherry casks, Bourbon, and even Hungarian Oak! It has been produced using the Distillazione Pot Still method, distilled twice, rested in stainless steel and corked with a natural stopper. With a lot of TLC and some Jaliscan magic, they’ve crafted a spirit with warm dried fruit aromas and hints of cider alongside chocolate, cinnamon and peppermint flavors.

Tasting Notes

The nose opens with an irresistible blend of chocolate, oak, black pepper and cinnamon, each aroma vying for attention. Flavors of rich chocolate and toffee come through on the palate, with the chocolate notes taking center stage and the toffee finish providing a perfect complement. It finishes with a lingering warmth that leaves you wanting more of this complex flavor profile.
