Balvenie is one of those Scottish distilleries that have been developing their processes, techniques, and expertise for over a century now and when it comes to making single malts, they’re just not willing to cut any corners. Simply put, Balvenie is a good whisky, one that has crossed paths with every whiskey connoisseur and charmed each of them. Any special releases from the distillery are particularly cherished, and so is the 40 year old single malt from the Rare Marriages series. Designed by master blender David Steward that has hand-selected some of the rarest casks in the collection to create a marriage of extraordinary character and depth. The selection of whiskies has been aged for a minimum of 40 years in traditional American and European Oak before being bottled at cask strength at an ABV of 46%. This spectacular single malt slowly reveals its complexity and depths of flavor with each sip you take.

Tasting Notes

The natural deep-honey color of this single malt shows that this is an exceptional single malt. On the nose, honey and orange marmalade nose mix with oloroso sherry spices, rich oak, figs, raisins, and creamy fruitiness. The palate is rich and complex: notes of orange blossom, candied ginger, honey, oak, vanilla, fruitiness, chocolate, spices, and oloroso. The finish is warm and elegant and possesses sweet honeyed richness.
