The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Located in Dufftown, Scotland, The Balvenie is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery that is owned by William Grant & Sons. The distillery first started producing whisky in 1983 and is now the only distillery in Scotland that still grows its own barley, uses traditional floor maltings, and keeps both a coppersmith and a team of coopers on site. The Balvenie French Oak 16 Year Old is their first expression with a French oak finish. The idea came about when The Balvenie USA brand ambassador Lorne Cousin suggested exploring such casks after a family trip. This vibrant single malt is finished in casks that used to hold Pineau des Charentes ― a fortified wine from the Charentes vineyards that is made from unfermented grape juice and matured with the addition of Cognac eau-de-vie. The resulting 95.2-proof single malt is light and fruity with floral, apple, citrus, spice, and ginger notes.
